Tobey, Jake and Natalie are all good!
Tobey Maguire is a Marine officer in Afghanistan where he is reported dead. Jake Gyllenhaal is the black sheep brother who steps in to try and help his wife (Natalie Portman) and daughters.
I had my doubts about this film – American remakes of European originals are often disappointing. But I was completely engaged from start to finish. Not only are all the three main actors emotionally plausible, but the whole sense of family and the disruption of the father going away is beautifully conveyed. Anyone who has seen In America will know how good Jim Sheridan is at directing children. I cried at the end.
